This article brought a moral dilemma of mine. A few years back before I understood statism as I do now, I worked towards getting my small town to pass a bylaw that prevents food establishments from using Styrofoam and certain plastic items because of the harm they cause to the earth as well as human health. If they break the bylaw they are fined by the town government. I understand that that infringes on their freedom, and know the real solution is for people to voluntarily choose to not use such harmful chemical products. Yet I'm still glad to eat in a restaurant and not receive a toxic styrofoam container. On one hand I added to the power of the mafia collection agents, on the other I helped mother earth in a small way. I often wonder if I did the right thing.

Your heart was in the right place and perhaps both you and I could have found a more holistic, non-coercive and decentralized means to address those issues but what is done is done and all we can do is make the best choices according to our current moral compass and understanding moving forward.
Now instead of seeking to engage in creating laws that use money coerced from people “taxation” to fund the creation of armed gangs of people in uniforms that have a legal monopoly on violence (police) to threaten people to behave as I want them to and use the court/banking system to force compliance, I seek to educate those engaging in the behaviour that is harming themselves and others directly. I deliver evidence of the detriments of let’s say glyphosate right to the manger of the park maintenance staff, and am persistent until the message is received and understood. If that fails, I will then engage in more direct overt or covert action to defend those beings that cannot defend themselves (as Max Wilbert has recently suggested on his blog pertaining to “escalating”.)

Yes the cult programming that holds the imaginary mommy and daddy figure of “government” in a place of high regard in many people’s minds (despite its long and constant history of terrorizing, abusing, murdering, pillaging and enslaving both mankind and our nonhuman elder kin) is a tough nut to crack for sure.
Perhaps the most effective way to liberate people from that self destructive dogmatic construct is not found in the brute force of cracking open the cage they mentally inhabit by force, but rather to encourage the cage dwellers to seek out stimuli that inspires them and empowers them unlock and leave the cage themselves. As Etienne de la Boetie2 says, “to see the cage is to leave it”.
Or, to revisit the tough nut to crack analogy, to provide stimuli that awakens the seed within to sprout and punch through the shell gracefully, to outgrow the shell and set down roots in the rich earth to become strong without the shell.
I think for me, the process of seeing through the statist indoctrination was less about someone slapping me in the face or throwing a metaphorical bucket of water in my face and more due to me cultivating a deep love for and awareness of the natural world (which led to me recognizing the sacred and wanting to defend it against the entities pillaging the natural world). Seeing how statist regimes have been decimating the beauty of Creator’s Cathedrals (old growth forests) since they began (no matter who people vote for) forced me to give my head a shake and see those entities and belief systems for what they are (inherently degenerative and unethical).
I suppose this post above might fall more into the category of the cold bucket of water in the face type of stimulus but I do try to offer the other sort of less statist dogma dissolving stimulus (such as my posts on Fairy Creek and other places that need protecting). More than anything I just needed to get the things I expressed above off my chest as I find it sickening thinking about how the money that is extorted from each of my pay checks is spent (but also to offer some info to those unfamiliar with just how much of our income tax goes right to the banking cartel).

I honestly try to avoid listening to politicians or the news as much as possible so I do not claim to be well versed on stated (or covert) Trumps goals, I just know there is a lot of oil there and there was also a lot of oil in Iraq (another place US military was unleashed to "save the people from bad guys and help bring democracy").
One thing I would highlight thought regarding gold vs oil, is that while gold may be able to be used to prop up hollow flimsy fractional reserve lending racketeering institutions, or for bribes or making shiny Taj Mahal wannabe Whitehouse ballrooms you cannot eat gold nor can you physically put it into a gas tank in a jet fighter, tank or hellfire drone.
One that is not well versed in how modern agriculture functions might think that you cannot eat oil either, but thanks to the Haber-Bosch process most of us are essentially eating oil every single time we buy food in a grocery store.
So access to gold may translate into political / banking clout in the current geopolitical / economic landscape, but in a world of collapsing economies and industrial infrastructure, I would argue that having access to oil would be more valuable than gold (as a raw material) for a wannabe dictator attempting to hold together a collapsing empire, engaging in isolationism and perhaps wars of aggression.
