Why are there trees I never walk under but large and melodious thoughts descend upon me?

~ Walt Whitman

What a glorious and exciting list of books to explore. Thank-you fellow traveler!

What a beautiful post - and those trees!

I too, have a love affair with trees, having grown up - partially - in a massive Mimosa tree. Oh, if humans only knew their role on this planet.

Thank you for this, and for knowing.

Wow. I'm saving this list, since I'm full up on my reading schedule for now. It's so comprehensive! Thanks, Gavin, for bringing them all to my attention.

The only book I've ever read that centered on trees (besides The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein) is The Overstory by Richard Powers, which blew my mind wide open. I write about it here:

You are most welcome!

I thought about The Giving Tree (and a book called "Rooted" and "Braiding Sweetgrass" and others) but than I thought maybe they would better fit into a philosophy category or something.

Thanks for the suggestions regarding The Overstory, you are the second person to mention that book to me recently. I have now added it to the list and a new poll to be voted on in the post above.

What gorgeous photos! And an enormous list of interesting looking books, kinda intimidating. I’ll wait to vote till the next round weeds some out. 😁

Thanks! Yes it is quite a list, I wish I owned them all! (I only own maybe 1/2 of them).

I have now added an additional poll with the two suggestions people offered.
