Book Club Poll Results For October/November (2024)
This post shares the poll results for the forth installment of the Book Club series
The winner for the forth Book Club Poll selection (for reading during October/November) turned out to be “Mycelium Running: How Mushrooms Can Help Save the World”.
I am excited to learn about a truly ancient community of organisms which often forms symbiotic relationships with other organisms and bridges the connection between life, death and re-birth along side of you in the months ahead.
I have owned a copy of this book many years now and I had a chance to briefly communicate with the author last year and after he gave me permission to include some of his content pertaining to mushroom cultivation (from one of his other excellent books on Growing Gourmet and Medicinal Mushrooms:) in my first book he was kind enough to wish me Good luck (with publishing/distributing Recipes For Reciprocity) he also said “honored to share this Mycelial path with you brother”.
Given those connections and how much I enjoyed his book the first read through (enough to want to quote him in my book) I am super excited to take another in depth look at one of Paul Stamets’ best books to reciprocate his kind gesture and words of encouragement by hopefully introducing a few people to his valuable work in the field of mycology.
I am also looking forward to honestly looking at whether or not mycologists have learned anything substantial (since the books publication) that was not included in his book (and/or potentially anything might contradict the accuracy of what Paul shared in Mycelium Running, given it was published almost 20 years ago) though Paul is a pretty smart guy and I cannot think of anything off the top of my head, but only time (and careful page turning/contemplation) will tell! I look forward to reading it along side many of you that are participating in this Book Club Series on my blog.
I hope you will buy your own copy and read and contemplate this book’s contents it along with me in the months ahead.
I also want to preemptively apologize that my review of “The Spirit of Trees: Science, Symbiosis and Inspiration” from August/September (2024)’s Book Club installment is likely going to be delayed and behind schedule a bit.
I have a lot of plates spinning at the moment (working my day job while trying to preserve our garden crops and simultaneously propagating and tending to hundreds of seedlings for endangered tree species at home that are going to two separate community food forest/Refugia projects) and an opportunity has presented itself for me to begin planting at one of the community food forests (while planning continues for another) so I need to prioritize the seedlings and physical projects and will have to post my review a bit later than I had hoped. The Spirit of Trees is a very unique and compelling book that covers a range of subjects and so I want to do it justice and not rush through a review just for the sake of a deadline. I apologize if any of you out there were looking forward to reading that review before the end of the month, but I hope to get back on track soon and have the next review done within the allotted time frame as intended.
Thank you for your understanding, thanks for your continued support and thanks for engaging in this series if you are reading along side of me!
Wishing you all a peaceful and joyous autumn in which you are presented with many opportunities to harvest a bounty that nourishes your body, mind and spirit and where you catch many glimpses of the wisdom, majesty and beauty of our rooted elders whether in the forest or in your own backyard.
I'm in love with the Earth.
Gavin !
On top of everything you DO, you have a gift of beautifully writing about it too !
Comforting and captivating…just very settling
while everything seems to be in turmoil.
Thank you for all you do.
