The Mounsey Minute (Episode 13) 5 Ways To Eat A Pine Tree In 2025
This post shares a video slide show with this month's Media Monarchy broadcast that featured 5 Ways To Eat A Pine Tree In 2025 as the topic for January 2025.
For those of us with ancestral lineage from the northern hemisphere, Pine trees offer us a sort of universal language through which we can directly connect with that same tall rooted beings that our indigenous ancestors relied upon for food, medicine, crafting materials and inspiration for their traditions/language. This is one of the types of biological stimulus I talked about towards the end of my Biocultural Refugia presentation regarding ways through which we can awaken ancestral memories through connecting with the same plants and fungi that our indigenous ancestors would have.
Even in the winter we can go out in the forest and respectfully harvest some pine, spruce or fir foliage (needles) to make our selves a vitamin C rich cup of tea. Through that simple (yet powerful) act we are invited to experience sensory perception that our ancient ancestors did, to taste what they tasted, be nourished by the same rooted beings they were nourished by and it opens a cultural bridge to see how many similarities our ancestral place based wisdom has with other place based indigenous wisdom from areas all over the world.
Widely present tree families such as birch and pines tree are a sacred reminder of a time before arbitrary lines were drawn in the sand by statists for greed and ego back to an era when many of our ancient ancestors knew the birch trees and pine trees and had a reciprocal relationship with them. Long before people were swearing allegiance to kings, queens and flags they were swearing allegiance to the living Earth and recognizing our ancient kin (such as the lady of the woods and the nobles of the global woodlands) and the many gifts they share with us.
In essence, when we learn more about these tall rooted beings, learn to connect with them, perceive and receive their gifts respectfully and give our time and attention to them (as our ancestors did) we create Cultural Refugium and bridges of awareness that can become the common ground we connect through as we find allies in other ancient cultures from the place where we live. Learning to interact with and be nourished by trees like pines can become a sort of Rosetta stone as we work to leave statist regimes behind and forge reciprocal relationships and alliances with place based ecologically literate cultures from all over the northern hemisphere.
