The Results For June's Poll Of The Month (2024)
This post shares the results from the poll that asked what species I should write about for my next book
The following are the results from this poll:
I had originally said that what ever three species have the top numbers of votes will become the focus of an in-depth article as part of my Stacking Functions in the Garden, Food Forest and Medicine Cabinet : The Regenerative Way From Seed To Apothecary series in the future, but since I had such great engagement and interesting suggestions I have decided to increase the number of articles I will write based on those polls to five! :)
First winner is…*drum roll…….* Lemon Balm (Melissa officinalis)
I am stoked to write about this species in the future as I use the leaves from our garden regularly in my teas, kimchi and in topical medicine recipes such as this.
Second runner up goes to…Black Currents (Ribes nigrum)
Third in line was: Gooseberries (Ribes uva-crispa.)
and last but not least, we had a tie! So I will write an article about both Chaga (Inonotus obliquus) and Reishi (Ganoderma sichuanense) in the future.
Okay that is it for me today everyone. Thank you to everyone who voted and offered suggestions. I look forward to learning about, interacting with and creating with the above species along side each of you in the future.
When I was a little kid, army brat, in Germany we used to eat red currants all the time. Haven't eaten any since. I recall that they were wonderful.
I recently planted lemon balm and use it in my: go to sleep tea, as well. I'm looking forward to reading more about this awesome plant. It seems happy to grow, even with our coolish summer so far.
